Scott County sheriff urges residents to stay off roads amid dangerous conditions

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Scott County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to remain indoors and avoid travel unless there is a medical emergency due to extremely hazardous road conditions.
Officials said numerous vehicles have become stuck or slid into ditches as conditions continue to deteriorate, with several areas reported as nearly impassable.
The sheriff’s office said first responders are experiencing difficulty reaching calls safely, and non-essential travel is increasing the risk to both motorists and emergency personnel.
Authorities warned that anyone who becomes stranded or involved in a crash may experience delayed emergency response.
“For your safety and the safety of our first responders, please stay home until conditions improve,” Sheriff Derick Wheetley said.
