MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — The Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation announced the death of Executive Director Tony Iriti.
In a statement released Thursday, the organization said Iriti helped lead the corporation through significant economic growth in Jefferson County, including the recent announcement of Texas-based Manner Polymers locating a manufacturing facility in Mt. Vernon.
Officials said Iriti was also a strong advocate for existing businesses in Jefferson County and played a key role in promoting regional economic development opportunities throughout Southern Illinois.
“Tony was a visionary for our community,” said JCDC President Joe Gliosci. “He had a keen sense of the blend between business and municipal governments. But most importantly to each of us, Tony was a friend.”
Jeff Haarmann, the corporation’s immediate past president, said the organization would take time to reflect on Iriti’s accomplishments before continuing its economic development efforts.
The organization asked the community to keep Iriti’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
