Above is the latest run of StormCast, showing our chances for showers increasing from the south through Friday morning, and continuing into the afternoon.
We will be off to a seasonal start to the day as our overnight lows fall to the upper 50s and lower 60s.
We may see a sprinkle or two tonight in Cape Girardeau, with precipitation chances increasing closer to sunrise.
With Friday afternoon’s cloud cover and storm chances, highs will likely fall below average. Expect lower to mid-70s for most of the viewing area with a light southeasterly breeze.
A mix of showers and possibly a thunderstorm will highlight our Friday forecast in Cape as we prepare for Memorial Day weekend.
The risk for severe weather is overall fairly low, but not zero, for the eastern edge of the viewing area. A Marginal Risk of severe weather is in place, with an isolated severe storm possible on Friday afternoon and evening.
Through the first half of the weekend, most of us have a good shot at meaningful precipitation. Hopefully, this brings a little relief for our drought-stricken counties.
Highs return to the 80s for the start of the holiday weekend and will stick around through the extended forecast. Near-daily storm chances continue into the end of next week. For the moment, the severe threat is low, but we will continue to monitor those chances.
