Two arrested after traffic stop in Carbondale; passenger wanted on Georgia warrants

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Two Carbondale residents were arrested early Friday after police recovered a firearm during a traffic stop and discovered one of the occupants was wanted on multiple warrants out of Georgia.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at approximately 1:32 a.m. June 12 in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue.

During the stop, officers learned passenger Kelby LT Willis, 20, of Carbondale, was wanted in Georgia on warrants for failure to appear on charges of robbery, false imprisonment, family battery and third-degree cruelty to children.

Police said officers recovered a firearm during the investigation and determined both Willis and the driver, Tereasa D. Brinson, 34, of Carbondale, were allegedly in unlawful possession of the weapon.

Willis was arrested on a charge of armed habitual offender in addition to the Georgia warrants. Brinson was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and accountability.

Both were transported to the Jackson County Jail and are being held pending detention hearings.
