PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The McCracken County Board of Education is proposing a general fund tax rate that is expected to generate nearly $29.5 million in revenue.

The proposed tax levy for 2027 is 51.8 cents per $100 of assessed value on real property and 52.9 cents per $100 of assessed value on personal property.

Those rates are unchanged from fiscal year 2026, when the tax generated approximately $28 million in revenue.

The district estimates the proposed rates would generate approximately $29.5 million, an increase of about $1.45 million from the previous year. Of the additional revenue, approximately $3.56 million is expected to come from new and personal property.

The district said the additional general fund revenue would be allocated to several areas, including approximately $825,206 for instruction, $254,843 for transportation, $199,358 for the building fund and $133,489 for maintenance. About $36,228 would go toward collection costs.

The compensating tax rate for 2027 is 50.9 cents on real property and 51.8 cents on personal property. That rate is estimated to generate approximately $29 million.

The McCracken County Board of Education is scheduled to adopt a tax rate during its regular meeting Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the Board of Education office, 300 Cumberland Ave. in Paducah.
