Nebraska troopers find dead body in trunk after chase
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska state troopers arrested a driver after finding a dead woman in his trunk on Friday.
About 2:45 p.m., authorities in Texas told the Nebraska State Patrol that a vehicle thought to be involved in a homicide was driving in Nebraska.
Less than 15 minutes later, troopers saw the vehicle going west on Interstate 80 near Grand Island, the patrol said.
A trooper tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away.
The chase continued for about 9 miles at speeds topping 110 mph, according to the patrol.
Near the Wood River exit, the vehicle hit the back of semitrailer-truck, left the road and struck a tree in the ditch.
Troopers found the driver, a 17-year-old Texas boy, with severe injuries. They then opened the trunk and found the dead body, the patrol said.
Harris County, Texas, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the driver was Tyler Roenz of Humble, a city near Houston.
Tyler and his mother, Michelle Roenz, had been reported missing Thursday morning, according to ABC affiliate KTRK.
The driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
The patrol said it is working to identify the victim.
