CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale will celebrate its 45th consecutive year as a Tree City USA community with an Arbor Day event later this month.

The celebration is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Founders Park, located behind the Carbondale Police Department.

As part of the event, the city’s forestry division will plant a swamp white oak in honor of Mayor Carolin Harvey.

The Daniel H. Brush Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will also plant a Jefferson elm to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.

City Manager Stan Reno said the recognition reflects Carbondale’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and quality of life.

Officials encouraged residents to attend the event and consider planting trees in their own communities.
