MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – Students from McCracken County High School have earned top honors at the state Future Problem Solving competition.
The school’s team was named state champion, with members Jack Nelson, Riya Patel, Allison Ricketts and Gavin Schooley posting record-setting scores, according to school officials.
Nelson, a senior, also won state titles in individual Future Problem Solving and scenario writing, and received a senior scholarship from the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition.
Schooley placed fifth in individual problem solving. Brennen Hartman finished eighth in individual competition and first in the alternate division. Lillie Canter and Victoria Jordan placed second in the alternate division, with Jordan also finishing 10th in individual competition.
Coach Melissa Bryan said the team’s performance marks the most successful season in the school’s history.
Students spent months preparing for the competition, which focused on the theme of a “surveillance society.” Their project included research on invasive surveillance systems in classrooms and the development of a proposed solution involving a decentralized, cloud-based storage system.
