SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri Food Bank has received a $10,000 grant to support its efforts to provide food to people experiencing hunger across the region.

The funding comes from First State Community Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines through the Member Impact Fund, a matching grant program supporting community needs.

The grant comes as food insecurity continues to increase in Southeast Missouri. According to the food bank, more than 69,000 people across its 16-county service area experienced food insecurity in 2024, or about one in five people.

“We’re grateful for their investment in our neighbors, especially at a time when more families are facing food insecurity,” Southeast Missouri Food Bank President and CEO Joey Keys said. “This grant will help us continue providing nutritious food to families, children and seniors across Southeast Missouri.”

The food bank serves about 70,000 people each month through more than 140 partner agencies and direct-service programs.

The Member Impact Fund matches contributions from participating financial institutions. In Missouri, 956 applications received funding through partnerships with 174 member institutions.

Since the program launched in 2023, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines has provided more than $106 million in grants through the fund.
