Graves County Sheriff’s Office: 3 face charges after overnight car theft, joyriding

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Three suspects have been identified in overnight vehicle thefts and car break-ins in Graves County.
A rash of overnight car break-ins were reported Wednesday morning from the Wagon Lane, Creekside Drive, and Old Dubin Road areas just west of the city limits of Mayfield.
A Ford SUV was also reported stolen from the Wagon Lane area aroun 11:37 p.m. Tuesday.
Some of the items stolen from the vehicles were found in these areas scattered along the road ditches.
Around 1:43 a.m., Graves County Sheriff’s Deputy Garrett Clark saw the stolen vehicle while patrolling the BelAire Drive area and tried to stop it. The vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed and got away from the deputy.
Then around 7 a.m. Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies received a report of the stolen vehicle (beige Ford SUV) seen driven off into a field and abandoned by two suspects who were seen running into a field in the 600 block of Old Dublin Road.
Sheriff’s deputies Larry Jones and Ben Doran arrived and chased the suspects by foot.
Deputy Jones was arrested a 15-year-old juvenile near the barrier fence at about the 20 mile marker at Interstate 69, which is approximately 1 mile away.
The second suspect was able to run across the interstate and into the area of Cardinal Roads and Pritchett Road. Deputy Doran was able to arrest the second suspect in a creek behind a home in the 700 block of Pritchett Road, or about 1.5 miles from where the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle.
The second suspect was identified as 20-year-old Jarrett M. Thompson of Hernando, Mississippi. He was wearing a mask at the time of his capture.
A 13 year old was arrested around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10. The juvenile admitted to participating in the crimes, a car theft and subsequent joyriding, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office. The 13 year old was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner. The Mayfield Police Department and Kentucky State Police assisted sheriff’s deputies.
The investigation revealed that three suspects had been walking the area neighborhoods looking through vehicles that they found unlocked.
Items were stolen from some of the vehicles. As the suspects were in the Wagon Lane area, they came across a vehicle at a home that the owner had started and left running to warm up. They stole that vehicle, which was a beige 2018 Ford SUV, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of the suspects arrested told sheriff’s deputies that were smoking marijuana and were bored, describing the motivation behind their overnight crime spree.
The suspects face vehicle theft charges, fleeing, and other related charges.
