Keeping the tradition alive: Parade of Lights attendees share experience with grandchildren for first time

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – “Keep that tradition going.”
That tradition of attending the Parade of Lights in Downtown Cape, which is exactly what Amy Baker did once again this year, and this one was her first with her five-month-old granddaughter.
“We’re going to tell her all about it.”
Baker said the Parade of Lights has a way of bringing that holiday spirit.
“This puts everybody in the Christmas mood and just makes everybody ready to give and enjoy family, so it’s perfect,” she said.
And speaking of family, Todd Ritter, who has been coming to the Parade of Lights since it began some three decades ago, likewise enjoyed this holiday tradition with his grandchildren for the first time.
“Since they came into our lives, that’s all we want to do is things with our grandkids,” he said.
And Ritter said moments like these spent with loved ones are to be cherished.
“I just love being with my family and experiencing things like these because we don’t know how long we’re going to be here, and every time we enjoy something with the holidays or whatever it is with our kids, it just makes it more special,” he said.
The time spent with family, the lights, the smiles, all make the Parade of Lights the: “Quintessential holiday experience.”
