Father looking for answers; says son was tied to chair at school
CHESTER, Il. (KBSI)- Sawyer Wilson is a 34-year-old single father, who is looking for justice for his three-year-old, nonverbal, Autistic son, Nicholas.
“He was restrained they said with a plastic tablecloth.”
Wilson says the superintendent, Kimberly Briggs informed him through this letter, his son Nicholas, was restrained and tied to a chair during school at the Chester Community Unit School District #139.
We learned a school board meeting held on Wednesday talked about the possibilities of terminating an employee.
but Wilson says nothing came from it, “Not a single answer from this school board, I came in, I gave my speech, that they took two hours to delegate, about what they were going to do about this situation.”
Wilson says there are two teachers in the classroom, the teacher and the teacher’s aide.
I spoke with Superintendent of Schools, for the Regional Office of Education, Kelton Davis, and he says Superintendent, Briggs, made him aware of an incident and has contacted the state board, legal counsel, and the school district.
Adding that in instance of an investigation the standard protocol is to remove the person from the classroom.
as of right now – no specifics have been given as to who is accused of actually tying up Nicholas.
Davis says he doesn’t know details but he is assuming there is definitely something legally questionable here.
We also reached out to superintendent Briggs – she told us she had no comment.
Now – Wilson says he wants to spread awareness of the situation for the safety of other children.
Wilson says, “Because it could be going on with their children, because their…because somebody did not walk in and see this happen to my son, it could still be going on today.”
