Man with arrest warrant, cited for drugs after traffic stop

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man was arrested in Williamson County on an arrest warrant out of Randolph County after sheriff’s deputies stopped his vehicle.

William J. Johnston faces a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle driving by the registered owner who had an outstanding arrest warrant traveling south on Cambria Road on February 27 at 4:05 p.m.

They conducted a traffic stop on Cambria Road.

Johnston was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Randolph County.

During the traffic stop K9 “Shadow” was deployed to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. That resulted in a positive alert to the odor of narcotics.

A probable cause search of the vehicle found a plastic bag containing a crystalline substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Johnston was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
