3 arrested after police chase from vehicle into cornfield
GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Three people were arrested after a two-hour search when a man jumped from a vehicle and ran into a cornfield in Graves County.
Sheriff’s deputies conducted drug investigations in and around the Pryorsburg and Wingo areas.
Murray J. Akers III, 43, faces a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine. Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden says he also had warrants for parole violation, contempt for assault and bail jumping, contempt for criminal mischief, bail jumping and contempt for failure to pay fines.
Shai O. Jenkins, 25, of Wingo faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Caleah M. Walsh, 20, of Wingo faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff’s deputies identified Akers as selling crystal methamphetamine in the area. He also had numerous outstanding warrants. One of those was a parole violation warrant from the Kentucky Parole Board.
Graves County sheriff’s detectives gathered in the area of Pryorsburg around 3 p.m. on Friday, June 28 to try to locate Akers.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden says Akers was seen as a passenger in a vehicle and he abruptly jumped from the vehicle into a cornfield to try to elude arrest.
After a two-hour search of the area of Finks Road, Hwy. 1748 and Snow Lane which included using a drone, Sheriff Hayden says Akers was found around 6 p.m. hiding in a shed behind a home on Snow Lane.
The vehicle that Akers had jumped from was stopped by sheriff’s deputies.
Sheriff Hayden says methamphetamine was found in that vehicle.
The driver and passenger were arrested.
All three suspects were taken to out of county jail facilities.
