U.S. 62 reopens after crash causes damage to railroad overpass
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – U.S. 62 reopened to normal traffic flow at a railroad overpass at the 5.9 mile marker in western McCracken County.
The road had to be closed for more than four hours Thursday morning to allow emergency repairs to a railroad overpass that was struck by an overnight crash, damaging several of the bridge supports.
A Kevil woman was injured in the crash.
McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies say Amanda Selph was driving a GMC Yukon westbound on Blandville Road when she lost control of the vehicle around 1:45 a.m. on July 25.
Her vehicle left the road and struck the wooden support beams for the railroad overpass at Blandville Road near Childress Road.
Deputies say Selph sustained incapacitating injuries and had to be cut out of the vehicle by mechanical means.
She was taken to a local hospital for initial treatment of injuries, with further treatment at an out-of-state hospital likely due to the severity of her injuries.
Blandville Road was closed between McCracken Blvd. and Childress Road for about 2-and-a-half hours.
Railroad inspectors determined that the bridge required immediate repairs before rail traffic can resume. A Canadian Railroad (CNRR) crew arrived at the site and started work about 7:30 a.m. The repairs are completed.
The site is cleared. All lanes are open.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Concord Fire, West McCracken Fire, Mercy Ambulance, McCracken County D.E.S., Stovesand’s Wrecker Service, Canadian National Railroad and the single passerby who stopped to render aid and call 911 on Amanda’s behalf.
