Pilot uninjured after experimental aircraft incident near Mt. Vernon airport

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — An experimental aircraft attempting to depart from Runway 18 at Mt. Vernon Airport experienced an incident Friday morning, coming to rest in the median near the off-ramp from Interstate 57 to Illinois Route 14 on the south side of the airfield.
According to airport officials, the National Transportation Safety Board reviewed the situation and determined it to be a non-accident. The aircraft sustained no structural damage and has been cleared to be moved.
The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.
Airport officials thanked the public for their concern, adding they are relieved to report the pilot is safe.
