Cape Girardeau police investigate fatal stabbing on William Street

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — A 36-year-old Cape Girardeau man died after a stabbing Monday night, and police are investigating the case as a homicide.
Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded around 9 p.m. Monday to the 1100 block of William Street for a reported stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found Deandre Betts, 36, of Cape Girardeau, suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Officers began providing aid until medical personnel arrived. Betts was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m.
Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams took custody of Betts. An autopsy has been scheduled.
