South Sprigg Street reopens after major renovation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — South Sprigg Street has reopened following a major renovation project from Southern Expressway to Shawnee Parkway/Highway 74.
The roadway reopened last week, but drivers are urged to use caution as crews complete remaining work. The project included a new driving surface, replacement of a 105-year-old water main, sewer repairs and stormwater improvements.
“We are very thankful for everyone’s patience during this major project,” City Engineer Jake Garrard said. “We know construction is disruptive, so we’re thankful for the community and our contractors for making it as smooth as possible.”
Weather permitting, Fronabarger Concreters expects to complete remaining driveways, crosswalks, signs, final grading and grass establishment this month.
Crews also replaced curbs, gutters, sidewalks and deteriorated concrete street panels before completing milling and overlay work.
Renovations to North Sprigg Street between Broadway and Lexington are expected to begin later this year.
Another Sprigg Street Transportation Trust Fund project, stretching from Highway 74 to William Street, is scheduled for approximately 2029-30.
