25 animals seized during Granite City animal cruelty investigation

GRANITE CITY, Ill., (KBSI) — Twenty-five animals were seized and one person was taken into custody following an animal cruelty investigation in Granite City.

The Granite City Police Department executed a search warrant Aug. 18 at a home in the 2400 block of Hodges Avenue as part of the investigation.

Police said officers seized 23 dogs and two cats from the home and placed them in protective custody.

A suspect was also taken into custody pending criminal charges. Police did not identify the suspect or specify what charges could be filed.

The animals are being cared for by Granite City Animal Control, which police said is currently at capacity.
