Driver arrested after fleeing traffic stop, turning off headlights in Calloway County

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – A man was arrested late Monday after deputies said he attempted to flee during a traffic stop in Calloway County, according to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed around 10:30 p.m. May 4, 2026, on Highway 94 East using radar. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, authorities said the driver turned off the vehicle’s headlights and accelerated, turning onto Pottertown Road in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement.
The vehicle later stopped abruptly at Cahoon Road, where the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Elijah A. McKeel, 23, of Murray, Kentucky. He was transported to the Calloway County Detention Center.
McKeel is charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and multiple traffic violations.
