Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter seeks foster homes amid overcrowding

MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — The Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter is asking residents to consider fostering pets as the shelter faces overcrowding.
Shelter officials said the facility is currently over capacity and is seeking temporary homes for dogs and cats waiting for adoption. Fostering opportunities can last from a few days to several weeks and are intended to help reduce stress on animals while freeing up space at the shelter.
Officials said fostering can provide pets with time outside the shelter environment through activities such as walks, road trips and time at home with families.
According to Best Friends Animal Society, shelters with foster programs see adoption rates about 30% higher than shelters without them. Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter partners with the nonprofit organization, which advocates for no-kill animal shelters nationwide.
