Buyout plan offered to Glenallen residents after flooding

GLENALLEN, Mo. (KBSI) – The federal government is offering a buyout plan to Glenallen residents after flooding.

Residents can receive money from the Department of Agriculture for what their home is worth and a $5,000 relocation check.

FOX23 Multimedia Journalist Shelby Brown spoke with residents on if they’ll take the buy out.

One resident says the grant only applies to homes on the one side of Glenallen and not to homes that didn’t receive flooding.

Residents are upset they have not gotten help with their homes since the tornadoes.

Some residents are still living in their homes that have no windows and roof leaks from the tornadoes.

The homeowner property buy out through the U.S. Department Of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service Emergency Watershed Protection Program is a grant that gives residents the option to sale their homes and receive an additional $5000 relocation fee. Calvin Troxell is the Bollinger County coroner, and he says citizens should act fast.

“If you don’t want to leave you don’t have too, you can keep your place, but if you do want out, now’s the time.”

As some residents are still deciding whether they should stay or not others are still struggling with tornado damages after FEMA provided little to no relief

John Dale Stanfill is a homeowner in Glen Allen who lost his home to the tornado.

“My house leaks like a siv. The roof inside the one bedroom right here the roof is coming down and the kitchen over here where I got damage at its starting to come down from rain coming in there too it’s just totaled.” Says Stanfill.

Philiph Stanfill is another homeowner in Glen Allen who also lost his home to the tornado, and he says there’s just some things money can’t buy.

“I don’t think they’re going to give you enough to move, ya know. Money wouldn’t have bought the house that was torn down there. It was one of the second oldest houses in Glen Allen so I know I wouldn’t have gotten enough money to replace that because it’s been in the family for 5 generations.”
