Carbondale Police Department achieves prestigious accreditation status

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The Carbondale Police Department will be recognized at the Carbondale City Council Meeting on March 25 for achieving Tier II status in the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).
O’Fallon Public Safety Director and ILEAP Board Officer Kirk Brueggeman will present Mayor Carolin Harvey with a plaque affirming the department’s accomplishment.
Accreditation ensures professionalism in law enforcement agencies through ongoing evaluation of policy and procedure against established criteria, verified by an independent body ¹.
The Tier 2 accreditation program, consisting of 181 standards, is the most comprehensive achievement, covering administrative, operational, personnel, and training requirements.
Carbondale is among only 22 law enforcement agencies in Illinois to obtain Tier 2 accredited status, joining 65 ILEAP-accredited agencies statewide ².
“The citizens of Carbondale can be very proud of the men and women of their police department for this achievement,” said Carbondale Chief of Police and City Manager Stan Reno. “This award represents a commitment to professional policing with high standards, transparency, and consistency.”
The City Council Meeting is open to the public and begins at 6:00 p.m. on March 25.
