Carbondale police investigate late-night traffic incident

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A driver was struck by a passing vehicle and injured late Saturday night after pulling over to check on a deer that had been hit by another vehicle.

The incident occurred around 11:01 p.m. in the 600 block of South Giant City Road. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to the emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.

The at-fault driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with suspended vehicle registration, and operation of a vehicle without insurance. They were released pending a court appearance.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Carbondale Police Department or Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips can also be made online.

The investigation is ongoing.
