Carbondale man arrested in aggravated battery and robbery incident

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A Carbondale man has been arrested following a reported aggravated battery and robbery Monday evening in the downtown area.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded at 5:55 p.m. to the 200 block of West Main Street for a report of an assault and robbery. Investigators learned three suspects attacked a victim and stole personal belongings during a dispute in the 100 block of North Washington Street.

The victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers later identified and arrested Marquis A. McNary, 33, of Carbondale. McNary was charged with mob action, aggravated battery, and robbery and taken to the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
