WCSO shuts down another suspected drug house in Herrin

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office executed a court-authorized search warrant Thursday morning as part of an ongoing methamphetamine trafficking investigation in Herrin.

Deputies served the warrant at 11:24 a.m. Dec. 4 at a residence in the 400 block of North 11th Street. According to the sheriff’s office, the occupant of the home had conducted multiple controlled methamphetamine sales to undercover deputies during the investigation.

During the search, deputies seized methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, U.S. currency and other items commonly associated with narcotics distribution.

Joel J. Copley was taken into custody and cited on the following charges:

  • Delivery of Methamphetamine (Class 2 felony; 720 ILCS 646/55)
  • Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 felony; 720 ILCS 646/60)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor; 720 ILCS 600/3.5)

“This investigation is another example of our continued commitment to aggressively confronting the drug activity that harms our communities,” Sheriff Jeff Diederich said. “When individuals choose to distribute methamphetamine in Williamson County, they will be met with decisive action. I am proud of the diligent work of our deputies and grateful for our strong partnership with the State’s Attorney’s Office.”

Copley was transported to the Williamson County Jail.
