PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The Upper Town Heritage Foundation has named Dr. MarTeze Hammonds as executive director of the Hotel Metropolitan, marking the first paid staff position in the museum’s history.
Hammonds, a western Kentucky native and advocate for African American history, will lead efforts to expand programming, increase community engagement and preserve the legacy of the historic Hotel Metropolitan.
City officials said the appointment represents a significant milestone for the museum and its continued growth.
The foundation also recognized Betty Dobson for her years of leadership and dedication to the Hotel Metropolitan, which is considered one of Paducah’s most significant cultural landmarks.
The City of Paducah partnered with the Upper Town Heritage Foundation and executive search firm KEES/Alford Executive Search during the selection process.
The Hotel Metropolitan served as a lodging destination for many prominent African American entertainers and travelers during the segregation era and remains an important part of Paducah’s history.
